LCLS has advanced sample preparation and characterization labs as part of the Biolabs at the Arrillaga Science Center. Space within these labs can be reserved for preparation and early characterization of samples in preparation for an upcoming beamtime or proposal submission at LCLS, SSRL, or SSCC. The 5,500 square feet of lab space is broken down into BioSafety Level 1 (BSL-1) and BSL-2 envelopes.
LCLS provides basic wet lab space, called the Sample Prep Labs (SPL), in both the Near and Far Experimental Halls (NEH/FEH) for basic sample preparation and characterization that can be reserved for before or during LCLS beamtimes.
The LCLS Sample Environment and Delivery (SED) Department is responsible for making all necessary equipment and training for onsite sample characterization, manipulation, and delivery to beam, available to all potential users. The Injector Characterization Lab is currently open to users for optimizing sample delivery, allowing users to test sample delivery feasibility prior to proposal submission and to optimize sample delivery prior to beamtime.
