Sebastien is the Principal Investigator for the Center. He has been involved in developing capabilities for X-ray FEL applications in biology since the beginning of X-ray FELs as user facilities. His background is in X-ray method development focused on biological applications.

Center Co-Investigator
Aina Cohen
Aina is the Division Director of Structural Molecular Biology at SSRL and a Co-Investigator of this P41 Center. Her research is focused on the development of novel techniques and specialized instrumentation that apply macromolecular X-ray crystallography methods at synchrotron and XFEL sources to elucidate the relationships of protein structure to biological function. She is the technical leader of the standard goniometer-based instrument at LCLS-MFX

LCLS Biological Sciences Department Head
Mark S Hunter
Mark has over 10 years of experience doing bioscience experiments at LCLS. Mark's scientific background is in sample preparation, characterization, and experimental design for LCLS experiments.

SED Scientist
Ray GM Sierra
Ray is a sample delivery specialist with a mechanical engineering background. Although best known for working with Michael Bogan from the Stanford PULSE Institute, Ray has been practicing in XFEL experiments since 2009. Contact Ray with questions about sample delivery.

SED Scientist
Chris Kupitz
Chris is the Sample Prep Labs manager for LCLS and has been doing experiments at LCLS for over 10 years. His Ph.D. focus was on micro crystallization techniques and on mix-and-inject crystallography with medically relevant proteins. Roberto brings a decade of experience with the development of ultrafast techniques and technology in X-ray Emission and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy. His role in the Center is to push these technologies for biomedical applications.

Research Associate
Darya Marchany-Rivera
Darya is a Research Associate working for the Center since October 2021. She is focusing efforts on developing sample injector data collection at SSRL 12-1, integrating the use of injectors with UV-Vis ABS, developments of the goniometer capabilities related to the MFX instrument, and is involved with training and dissemination.
